| description | The Mentawai Islands lie roughly 100 km off of the west coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. They consist of 4 main islands with many smaller islands scattered throughout. From north to south, the main islands are Siberut, Sipora, NorthPagi, and South Pagi. These islands block most swells from reaching the mainland on Sumatra, but they offer some of the most perfectsurf in the world. Access to the islands is by sea only with regular ferries to the main trading ports, but by far the best way to accessthe surf is by charter boat.The Mentawai Islands offer some of the best and most consistent waves in the world. Ashton and Carrick have been operating in these waters since 1999 providing surfers with a variety of waves to suit all levels of ability. Charter includes: Padang airport transfers, 12 nights onboard Navistar, bottled water, hot drinks, sodas, 3 meals a day, and use of all Navistar onboard equipment and facilities: skin diving, fishing rods & reels, TV, DVD home entertainment center and a loud stereo system. is on the west coast of Sumatra.
Padang has an International
airport and there are many flights
daily from Singapore and Jakarta.
There are also connecting flights
from Bali via Jakarta daily. These
are best booked from Bali as they
are a lot cheaper: - Adam Air, - Batavia Air, - Lion Air - Garuda All service this route while Garuda, Air Asia and Tiger Airways service the Singapore route. Air Asia also has a daily flight out of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Cheap airlines: - www.airasia.com - www.tigerairways.com Note that these are budget airlines and have weight restrictions so be prepared to pay twenty or thirty dollars extra for boards. Luggage will also have to be re-checked. More expensive, but very reliable and good with boards, flexibel as well, concerning change of flight: ww.garuda-indonesia.com Transfers to and from the boat are included in the price but there is a 3 US-$ /day Mentawai Tax payable in Padang to our agents there. This money is paid by all guests traveling to the islands and goes toward the local community. This can be paid in US or Aussie dollars and of course Indonesian Rupiah. Note: All persons entering Indonesia must have a minimum of 6 months remaining on their passport prior to the passport expiration date.....and entry visa if needed. |
